My Response to Mark "Mangina" Ruffalo

"My response to Mark Ruffalo's Feminist rant...

First of all, it's clear you don't know what feminism is. But allow me to explain it to you. Feminists claim that feminism is about equality of all genders, and feminists, like yourself, cling to the dictionary definition of the word like it's gospel. But when the ACTIONS of feminists don't fall in line with the word's defintion, the definition no longer matters.

But here's what I think you should know.

Every time you support feminism, you're insulting every woman who wants to make her own choices about her life. Feminists push the rhetoric of, "Women have to have a career or patriarchy." regardless of what women ACTUALLY want. Anita Sarkeesian, one of the biggest faces of the feminist movement, has even decried "choice feminism" and claimed that women should not make choices only for themselves. They should only make choices that will benefit the feminist agenda. In other words, Mark, you are supporting a movement that is trying to limit a woman's choices.

You're degrading real rape victims who survived real rape. Feminists have worked very hard to change what is considered rape, and they have succeeded. A man can now be sent to prison for engaging in drunk sex with a woman, even if he was just as drunk as she was. The Yes means Yes law has made it so even consensual sex can be considered rape now if a man cannot PROVE a woman uttered the word "yes" and kept saying "yes" all throughout the sexual encounter. How would real rape victims feel about that, do you think, Mark?

You're undermining every woman who embraces her sexuality. Feminists are trying very hard to police sexuality. They speak out against pornography and accuse porn stars of having "internalized misogyny," no matter how much the porn star might insist she enjoys doing porn. They speak out against BDSM and call it abuse if the woman is the sub and the man the dom, regardless of how much a woman may enjoy being a sub. I thought feminism was supposed to be about the liberation of female sexuality. I didn't think we were erasing some restrictions only to add more.

You're spitting on the legacy of every woman who told sexism to "go fuck itself" and rose to the top regardless of the hinderances. Mary Whiton Calkins, who was forced to sit in on psychology classes and never register as a student because women were not allowed to study at Harvard but later went on to be the first female president of the APA. Marie Curie, who had to work very hard to find a school who would accept women but would later accomplish feats with radiation that pushed our technology forward by decades and would also become the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Just to name a couple. Feminists are fighting for special treatment for women, and they are winning. In several companies across the world, there are now gender quotas. This means, Mark, that women are being hired based on their gender, not on their merits. How would Marie Curie feel about that, do you think?

In short, you know not what you speak of. You reap the benefits of women like Marie Curie and porn stars like Mercedes Carrera (don't pretend you don't look at porn), and yet you support a movement that degrades them and disrespects them. When you grin with your cutesy little tumblr post and call anti-feminist women "ignorant little jerks," you ignorantly spit on the agency of thousands of women who have seen through feminism and are able to see the damage it is causing. You follow the shephard and "baaah" like the good little sheep you are.
